Spanish Main

During the Spanish colonization of the Americas, the Spanish Main was the collective term for the parts of the Spanish Empire that were on the mainland of the Americas and had coastlines on the Caribbean Sea or Gulf of Mexico. The term was used to distinguish those regions from the numerous islands Spain controlled in the Caribbean, which were known as the Spanish West Indies.

Examples of use of Spanish Main
1. Another heave–ho paddle back across the "Spanish Main" to the dock, and Cullen was playing with Bluebeard‘s bubble gun and sucking the good pirate‘s remarkably well– preserved lollipop.
2. With lusty pirate songs of "Ho, ho, ho, off we go, to search for treasure on Mosquito...." powering our paddles, we churned out across the "Spanish Main" to "Bluebeard Landing" on the tiny, uninhabited island.
